Book Reads: Fifty Shades of Grey (by E.L. James) [☝]

May 06, 2012

Actually, I don't think this can be classified as a 'review' for the books yet, because I'm even not half-way done with the first book. I am just kind of astounded of myself that I'm actually reading a book of its kind. To get things straight, Fifty Shades of Grey is an erotic romance novel.

It was actually my sister who discovered the book. It was through twitter. For the past few days she was repeatedly asking me if getting into this kind of book is okay with me. I didn't really pay attention at it first 'cause I was too busy, I guess, with my own stuff. Well not until yesterday, when she told me about a possible movie remake of the book, and one of the casts might be one of the guys in Vampire Diaries

That really caught my attention, because I just recently got addicted to that series. I specifically liked Damon, the one who plays that bad guy in the first season. My sister then showed me the picture of the guy who might play the male protagonist in Shades of Grey, and guess what.  It. Was. Him.

Who can resist this guy? He's so damn hot.

By the way, I got to know his name, which is Ian Somerhalder. Because of this connection, I got really interested with the book. (I learned also that he has a twitter account, and I immediately followed him! YAY! Further research informed me he was actually dating Nina Dobrev, his co-star in the vampire series T__T)

Reading from Wikipedia, Fifty Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fanfiction that became popular online and in forums. Because of the immense response that the story received, the author decided to actually publish it as a trilogy book.

However, some literature critics highly despised the books because of its explicit sexual content. I couldn't agree more, and to think I'm just at the first part of the first installment. It was even banned in a library because it's classified as soft porn.

The books, however, are still greatly supported by fans, mostly female, and mostly moms, that's why it's also called mommy porn. xD

I admit I'm intrigued with the story so far, though I was not familiar with some of the things written in it. I even needed to google some of the jargons that was used in the book (such as vanilla sex for instance).

It's still a good read I guess, especially for women who wants to drive their imaginations to the wild side. ;)
